Your Opportunity
Under the direction of the Director of Learning and Applied Research, the Grants Writer provides support in the development of funding proposals. In addition, the Grants Writer provides assistance to faculty and instructors with the development of internal and external research, proposals, funding applications, and grants. The Grants Writer is responsible for identifying grants and funding opportunities; preparing quality grant proposals, and tracking application deadlines to ensure grants are submitted on-time; for various applied research, primarily funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).
Functions and Duties
1. Provides support and works with faculty/instructors/teams as the key point of contact, to develop and write grant applications for external funding agencies.
2. Identifies and submits to the Director, Learning and Applied Research calls for proposal that are relevant to the college.
3. Develops and retains in-depth knowledge and understanding of Tri-Agency, policies and grant opportunities.
4. Keeps up to date on research funding programs, deadlines, application guidelines, policies/procedures and regulations that are of relevance to Okanagan College.
5. Tracks all submissions including deadlines, key dates and current status.
6. Handles inquiries related to grant writing support for funded applied research projects.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.



Education and Experience
A University degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum three years of related experience. Experience writing successful grant/funding applications.
Skills and Abilities
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat Professional.
  • Exceptional research and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate both in writing and verbally.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills to facilitate and coordinate teamwork among faculty, instructors, staff and administrators.
  • Considerable knowledge of project management methodologies, techniques and tools.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and to exercise tact, diplomacy and sensitivity.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to plan, organize and implement work schedules to effectively meet deadlines and system requirements for grant applications.
  • Solid understanding of research, research funding and community needs regionally and throughout Canada.
  • Ability to follow direction and ask for assistance when needed, plan, organize and prioritize conflicting and competing deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively maintain a highly varied workload and maintain attention to detail with frequent interruptions.
  • Knowledge of Tri Council agencies procedures, research methods, research ethics and funding options and opportunities.
