Your Opportunity
Under the Supervision of the Camp OC Program Administrator and in collaboration with a Camp OC Instructor, the Camp OC EA will work one-on-one and with smaller groups of children with exceptionalities. The EA will assist with and support the camper/s when working in a team environment, modify camp activities and monitor camper’s behaviour and intervene when needed.
The EA may be required to assist with campers’ physical limitations, such as pushing a wheelchair, helping with stairs, and maneuvering around the College. The EA will also monitor individual medical needs and assist with medications
The EA will have access to confidential information and be in contact with the campers parents/guardians to collaborate on how to best accommodate the campers and their individual needs. At the end of the day the EA might need to connect with a parent/guardian to update them on the day’s activities.
Occasional, the EA will accompany the camper/s on field trips. This may include, going to the park or beach, visiting a local businesses or participating in outdoor activities.
Functions and Duties
1. Provides day-to-day support and assistance to Campers and Instructors in the classroom and with daily camp activities.
2. Monitors and assists with the camper’s physical, medical, and behavioral needs
3. Monitors and assists the Instructor with camper activities to ensure they are carried out in a safe, caring and nurturing environment including: maintaining close supervision of campers, ensuring equipment is sanitized and put away, retrieving campers who attempt to leave the learning/camp environment, calming campers engaged in challenging behaviours, supervising and assisting campers to utilize a variety of life skill tools (i.e. scissors, utensils, etc.)
4. Follows all established CampOC and College protocols and reporting procedures including first aid, lost child, and anti-bullying policies.
Education and Experience
Completion of Grade 12 (or equivalent) plus successful completion of Educational Assistant post-secondary training is required. Minimum of six months related work experience as an Educational Assistant is required. Clear Criminal Record Check (CRC) is required. First Aid training is considered an asset.
