Your Opportunity | Reporting to the Academic Dean and working under the direction of the Distance Education Program Administrator, Distance Education Tutors are responsible for tutoring and assessing the course work of students who are enrolled in the assigned Distance Education course. |
Functions and Duties | • Develop and prepare distance education course materials in collaboration with faculty. • Provide timely and effective academic support to students via the Learning Management System (LMS), email and other digital communication tools. • Initiate contact with students to confirm enrollment and maintain regular engagement to foster a supportive learning environment. • Monitor and document student progress, offering personalized feedback and interventions as needed. • Evaluate and provide constructive feedback on assignments and examinations, ensuring a turnaround time that meets departmental standards. • Maintain scheduled virtual office hours for student consultations, ensuring availability and accessibility. • Coordinate with the Distance Education department to align assignment schedules with exam and course completion dates. • Submit final grades and assessment reports to the Registrar and Distance Education department within the established timeframe. • Perform additional duties related to the course or tutoring services as required. |
Education and Experience | The minimum qualification is a Master’s degree, or an equivalent level credential as appropriate for the discipline.Independent, post-secondary or public school work experience or relevant non-teaching work experience directly related to the duty assignment. Experience demonstrating a learner-centered teaching philosophy is desired. An active profile in scholarship, research and creative activity is an asset. |

Annual Salary/Hourly Rate | Tutors are paid a per student rate per registration ($92.22) and course completions ($72.65) as per the Okanagan College Faculty Association Collective Agreement. Tutors can have up to 30 students for a semester |
